Author Interview: Kylie Monahan

Author Interview: Kylie Monahan

One of my favorite things to do is celebrate other authors! I've missed doing author interviews, and I'm excited to dive back in by introducing you all to Kylie Monahan, author of Pieces of You!

Get to know her and find her book below!

Share 5 things that readers should know about you and your stories!

— I've wanted to be an author my entire life, and have experimented with multiple genres.

— I am currently (slowly), writing a thriller, a couple historical fictions (romance), and some contemporary romances (both short stories and full length novels). I'm also playing with the idea of a fantasy!

— My first ever full length novel was a historical romance about a murder suspect in the 1930s — it needs lots of work, but I hope to one day fix it up and publish it.

— My great grandmother (who has since passed), would always tell me that if you have a book, you have a friend. Reading got me through some of the roughest periods in my life, and it always made me happy to get her thoughts on my work and know she believed in me.

— The biggest thing I try to do in my work is positively showcase mental health. I've struggled with my own mental health since I was a kid, and there's a huge stigma around it. People believe you won't make it somewhere or find love, and I get to write stories full of romance and support to help prove those lies wrong.

How did your writing journey start?

I've been writing since I was five years old! I always wanted to tell stories and was constantly making up new ones for my favorite characters. The first one I remember was when I was five and obsessed with Hollie Hobby, LOL!

Which 3 fellow authors inspire you the most?

— B.K. Borison, author of the Lovelight series recently picked up by a traditional publisher. That alone is super cool to me, but my favorite book of hers, In the Weeds, shows such incredible representation of anxiety and auditory disorders.

— Mia Sheridan, another of my favorite authors. Her book, Archer's Voice, is incredible, shattering and repairing my heart all at once; finding a way to give a voice to a voiceless character was such a powerful storyline.

— Julia Quinn. Have you seen how long her backlog is?! Queen Charlotte was such a powerful story, but there's been beauty in every book of hers so far, in their own way. They're familiar and similar, yet still unique.

What are you currently working on?

I'm currently working on the second book in my debut series of interconnected standalones. This one features two characters from book one, Andrew and Sophea. I'm so excited to be able to share more in the new year!

When you're not writing, do you have any other creative outlets you love?

I love to read, but that probably isn't too surprising. I also enjoy painting, primarily with acrylics! You can usually find me trying to do some Bob Ross landscapes.

Where can readers find your books?

My debut novel, Pieces of You, is a contemporary romance about falling in love, and loving yourself, after trauma.

The paperback is on sale until the new year, due to some formatting errors — it will be republished in the correct format in early 2024; if you're looking to get it a little cheaper, snag it now! An e-book is also available (with accurate formatting), for those of you who prefer e-readers.

Pieces of You (All Your Pieces) is available on Amazon!
